Achieving maximum global impact with Microsoft Azure Functions
TwoConnect developed a set of Azure Functions integrating the company’s back-end systems with a public facing API. This enabled them to securely share critical resources and information with worldwide partners in an efficient manner.
API Management/Azure Functions
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a new global fund created to support the efforts of developing countries to respond to the challenge of climate change. GCF helps developing countries limit or reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to climate change. It seeks to promote a paradigm shift to low-emission and climate-resilient development, while also considering the needs of nations that are particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts.
Today, GCF runs a mix of on-premise and SaaS applications for core business functions.
Challenge
GCF hosts several valuable information resources in Microsoft Azure Services.
Their challenge was offering these resources publicly in a secure, reliable, and performance-oriented way so that they can quickly and effectively access resources and funds necessary to achieve maximum global impact.
Making their data and services publicly available helps partner organizations better coordinate their shared goals and operations.
Solution
So that GCF can securely share critical resources and information to worldwide partners in an efficient manner, TwoConnect developed a set of Azure Functions integrating GCF's back-end systems with a public facing API.
Azure and Microsoft Services Involved:
- Azure API Management
- Azure Functions
- Azure SQL Database
- Azure Redis Cache
- Microsoft Office 365
- Microsoft SharePoint Online
Using Azure Functions provides a high-performance serverless API with automatic global reach. The addition of Azure Redis Cache means even lower latency and fewer backend hits.
API Management easily presents the collection of individual functions as a single service at a single location, also with global reach.
Results
Azure and Microsoft Services were installed on GCF’s existing back-end system, and GCF now has the necessary resources and technology available to their global partners and clients. Microsoft Azure Services will continue to provide GCF a long-term platform for their information resources and partner collaboration needs.
